This one doesn’t pretend.

“In the Evening” is a small painting with a temperature higher than its 20 x 20 cm format would suggest. Reds, rusty oranges, and muted pinks are layered like a landscape after staring at a sunset for a little too long. At the bottom, a cooler blue-graphite accent appears — so the whole thing doesn’t start speaking exclusively in caps lock.

The texture of the canvas and the visible brushmarks stay on the surface. Not to pretend it was accidental. Rather to make it clear that the painting was made with a hand, paint, and a decision. The old method, in other words. Still works.
